Please help

I’m blogging this because I want to help. Meet Zenaida “Zeny” Rosales-Perez. Thirty-nine years old. A mother of three kids.

Ate Zeny is from Quezon who married a Batangueno on her 30th. They have three kids. The eldest is 9 years old, the second is five and the youngest is two years old.

She was diagnosed with cancer last September 2011. That time, she underwent surgical procedure that removes her left breast. A month after, she had to undergo another operation on her left femur fracture.

She is now diagnosed with breast cancer stage 4 and bone metastasis

Ate Zeny undergoes chemo every three weeks and according to her, radiotherapy is used for this kind of procedure. According to her ortho, a larger amount of money is needed for the series of therapy she needs.

Yesterday, she asked me if I could help her sell ball pens designed with text saying “CHEMOTHERAPY is a way for me to survive. Thank you for your support and prayers”. The ball pens cost 50 pesos each.

Few days from now, she will undergo chemotherapy for the nth time. She’s knocking on our generous hearts for a little help. Fifty pesos is just a little amount compared to what we spend for milk teas, cigarettes and other stuffs each day.

Let’s help save a life. Let’s help her survive.

Please reblog.

Photos are taken from her facebook account

STOP SCHOOL BASHING

Posted this on my wordpress blog weeks ago. You might want to take some time reading this.

School bashing in the mainstream all over social networking sites hitting trending topic spots and hundred thousands of shares it is.

It’s been weeks since all these backbiting started. Loud and proud backbiting, I mean. I know school bashing never left the stage. But this time, it’s under the limelight. It’s taking the center stage when it’s not supposed to. And it should never be taking it. It’s upstaging other more pertinent issues that deserve to be talked about.

What’s the point of assaulting universities? Would it make us more of a good citizen of this country? Would it show the competitiveness that we Filipinos are lacking?

My point is simple. NO SCHOOL MAKES A PERSON. It’s God who made you. And it’s you who defines you. Intelligence is not measurable by how many entrance exams you passed and not quantifiable by the university you chose. It’s just sad how people bring intelligence so much under the spotlight without underscoring the presence of good values.

I have read a lot of trash talking all over the internet. Some are ranting about how others insulted their university. Some are defending. Some goes out of topic bashing the physical appearance and the personality of whoever condemned his or her school.

It’s never wrong to speak up for what you know is right. Just make sure that you’re staying inside the sphere. Think before you click.

It all starts with the concept of freedom of expression. One posts something because he believes that he has this freedom of saying whatever his nagging mind tells him. Then one person believing that he has also the right to express himself freely would not agree with what the other said. Then the process of sharing, hash tagging, and all that makes the issue bloat start to eat all the active sites in the world.

Trash talking is never the answer. I see it as a weapon of people who does not hold intellect nor respect. When you defend something, don’t go too far. Don’t get other things inside the issue. You even have the choice to keep quiet.

I am a Thomasian. I am a second year student and I believe in education.

Yes, I am affected by all the school bashing circulating in the internet because until now, I haven’t got a clear answer why do we have to take into consideration university rankings all the time. I does not appear transparent to me why people measure an institution’s excellence with how hard the entrance exams should be and how geniuses and people of the upper class dominate a university.

I believe every school is unique. We all have our reasons why we entered the university we are staying right now. God has a reason why we are where we are right now. Eventually, we’ll all die. Our achievements, diplomas, and even our educational attainment won’t help us hide from death. But even if we die, UST will still be UST. UP is UP. Ateneo will always be Ateneo. La Salle is La Salle. Our photos will be stored inside that hardbound book placed on our son’s or daughter’s coffee table and our school’s library shelves. We’ll be part of history.

One last thing. It’s never COMPLETELY the school. It’s us. Like what I have mentioned, we’ll be part of history. That’s given when we leave. But what will make US different is when we won’t make ourselves just part of history. It’s when WE MAKE HISTORY. Whatever university you chose to shape you, wherever you graduated.

When we carve our niche, choose to stand out and bring the glory back to those who helped us to be persons of value and success for others, we’ll all go back to that place that molded our aspirations firmer.

It doesn’t matter if you bleed yellow or maroon or green or blue.

Let’s value education. Be at our best.

Stop school bashing.

So I’m starting from scratch…

I have been a tumblr user for two years and sad to say, I wasn’t able to be more of a blogger. Thus, I ran this site reblogging every single day that it came to a point where I got tired of clicking that same button and smiling in front of my laptop whenever I can relate to the posts I read.

I was proud because I was able to reach almost a thousand followers but then it wasn’t fulfilling. I got them not because of my own thoughts but because I was a full-time reblogger.

It just came to pass that when I stepped down to that gymnasium stage and stepped out those blue gates, I left tumblr. I had to think. I had to be someone. So I entered wordpress. I’ve been using wordpress for four months now and I’m glad I achieved blog traffic more than what I was asking for. everyday, my wordpress flag counter and blog hits make me smile seeing that people outside the Philippines read my rants and everything I write and talk about haphazardly under the sun.

This time, I want to be back. Welcome. Read my rants. Read my thoughts. Talk to me. And that same beat that stopped a year ago, it now goes on.
